Assumptions and Limitations

Important boundaries on what PolyCalc tools model and how their results should be used.

General limitations

  • Results are for educational, preliminary, and calculation-checking use.
  • Calculators do not perform a complete code compliance check or design review.
  • Users are responsible for inputs, units, load combinations, material values, and interpretation.
  • Results must be reviewed by a qualified professional where required by the project or jurisdiction.

Beam calculator assumptions

  • Two-dimensional, static loading and idealized supports.
  • Linear elastic, small-deformation beam behavior within the represented model.
  • Loads, reactions, and members are simplified to the inputs visible in the tool.
  • Connection behavior, local effects, stability, construction sequence, and code-based load combinations are outside the tool's scope unless expressly modeled.

Do not use results alone for

Final structural member sizing, safety-critical decisions, stamped documents, construction instructions, or any situation requiring a full professional analysis and applicable code checks.
