What this calculator helps you find
A cantilever has one fixed support and one free end. The fixed support resists vertical force and moment, so the largest bending moment for common downward load cases occurs at that fixed end.
Relevant formula
Worked example
For a 6 m cantilever with a 5 kN/m downward uniform load, the vertical reaction magnitude is 30 kN and the fixed-end moment magnitude is 90 kN·m. The moment reduces to zero at the free end.
Use results responsibly
Use this tool for idealized, static two-dimensional analysis and for checking calculations. Confirm units, sign conventions, supports, material properties, and applicable design standards before using results in a project. Review the assumptions and limitations and validation records.
